In the spirit of original gift giving this season, Millie's Old World Meatballs and Pizza in Morristown has an idea; give the gift of meatballs.

Their returning holiday treat, "Pot-of-Balls," includes a stainless steel pot filled with quarter-pound homemade meatballs and imported cheeses. Gift-givers have a choice of 12 meatballs and two pounds of pasta ($53 marinara/$57 vodka sauce) or 24 meatballs and four pounds of pasta ($78 marinara/$82 vodka sauce). The pots can be ordered online, in-store or through the Millie's mobile app. Delivery is also available and refills of each pot are offered at a reduced price.

For the past two years, Millie's Old World on South Street has served traditional Italian recipes, but the inside is anything but old. A brightly red-tiled wood- and coal-fired oven sits behind a counter of chairs, all rich brown; a mosaic of black and white tiles decorates the back wall and wine-colored bricks trim the sides.

Owners and brothers, Vince and Brandon Carrabba grew up sharing Sunday dinners in Brooklyn and Staten Island with family where recipes were passed down from generation to generation. The restaurant is named after their grandmother, Millie, the originator of their famous meatball recipe.

"My brother and I watched my grandmother and mother cook, and as soon as the food came out, it was gone," said Vince. "She was a strong woman who raised a family of four after my grandfather passed. She stressed family values from our early childhood and has left an everlasting impression on us. We loved her food and recipes and figured this would be the best way to keep her legacy alive."

The menu at Millie's is creative and fun, filled with meatballs (made with top sirloin and fine imported cheeses), pizza pies and calzones.

Their Pistachio Pesto Pie (mild or spicy, $19) is made with fresh pistachio pesto, Italian sausage, homemade mozzarella, basil, parmigiano reggiano and extra virgin olive oil.

Millie's also offers a brunch and catering menu which includes salads and cheese platters, pasta, meatballs and Millie's signature Coal Pie with peeled tomatoes, garlic, a special blend of seasonings, homemade mozzarella, basil and pecorino romano cheese ($17).

Customer favorites include Millie's Meatballs, homemade mozzarella and the Meatball Wood-Fired Pie, made with fresh peeled tomatoes, garlic, seasonings, homemade mozzarella, meatballs, fresh basil and pecorino romano cheese (small $19, large $22).

Millie's is also known for its ovens. The dual coal- and wood-fired oven is one of the reasons everything on Millie's menu has a little smoky flavor.

"The wood-fired oven is traditional Neapolitan style pizza, the ash wood and Stefano Ferrara oven give the pizza a soft, light and airy crust with charred marks and a distinct flavor," said Vince. "The coal-oven (and secret pizza dough) gives the pizza an amazing crisp crust and we also sauté all of the toppings that go into our coal pies to enhance the flavor."

Millie's also offers a Sunday "BYOC" brunch, where customers are encouraged to bring their own champagne. The brunch menu features Millie's Wood-Fired Brunch Pizza, made with fresh mozzarella, parmesan reggiano, homemade home fries and scrambled eggs. Each comes with choice of meats and Millie's "Italian" French toast with berries and Vermont maple syrup. Brunch is served on Sunday's from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Food is one of their passions, Vince said, and they always had a desire to own a restaurant, but the best part of owning Millie's is "being able to eat the meatballs we grew up on all the time and being able to share it with our customers."
